- Sow & Tailor is pleased to present its inaugural exhibition, Hot Concrete: L.A. Arrangement, opening April 18th and will be on view until June 6th, 2021.
- Inspired by the methodologies of Ikebana, the traditional Japanese art of flower arranging, the exhibition is rooted in timelessness yet captures the specificity of our current moment. Hot Concrete brings together an mutigenerational group of Los Angeles based artists whose works transcend their individuality, tuning into the ethos of L.A. — an energy that is both harmonious and chaotic.
- A blank slate is a magical moment; it is an opportunity to both start anew and to think about what was before. On the topic of Ikebana, the philosopher Keiji Nishitani wrote that, “each flower appears as if it is emerging from nothingness.” In turn, an arrangement is about each bloom and stem placed within its own space and suspended in time, even if only momentarily. Yet, it is that captured moment that allows the viewer to contemplate all possibilities of both what is present and what is absent.
- For us at Sow and Tailor, our inaugural exhibition shows one perspective within the greater artistic production of Los Angeles and we hope that this new space allows for that Ikebana-like contemplation, with eyes to all future possibilities.
